John O'Leary (1929 - 1999) born in Cork City, Ireland, was a much respected Irish Artist and Art Teacher. From the 1950's onwards, he exhibited his work in Ireland and abroad, developing a unique abstract style, steeped in the Irish landscape, but also embracing the modernist 'School of Paris' style of Cezanne, Van Gogh and Matisse.
During a teaching career of fifty years he inspired many generations of Irish Artists. In the 1980's he began to experiment with photography and soon developed another outlet for his vision.
